Domestic violence charge follows alleged stabbing of boyfriend

A 31-year-old Wisconsin woman was taken into custody after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend. She was charged with a felony count of domestic violence for causing injuries with a dangerous weapon. Janesville officers reportedly received a call to attend to a domestic incident at about 9:30 p.m., and, upon arrival, they came across a man who had suffered stab wounds. He was taken for medical treatment at a hospital, but the two wounds were in his arm and not life-threatening. He was released after treatment.

According to investigators, the couple, who have been together for eight years, were both intoxicated when an argument started. It apparently developed into a violent fight, and the woman allegedly grabbed a knife and used it to stab the man. Investigators say the stab wounds were significant.

The woman apparently refused to comply with the commands of officers who ordered her to come out of the house. Instead, she showered and ignored the officers' calls. Nevertheless, she ultimately gave in and came outside, and she was arrested. Officers apparently searched the house and seized the weapon and some clothes for the purpose of DNA testing.

Individuals who are charged with domestic violence in Wisconsin may find comfort in learning that there are several ways in which an experienced criminal defense attorney can help. A lawyer may be able to prevent charges being filed, and even those who are guilty may have their charges reduced. An attorney may arrange counseling and treatment through a program that can be completed before the case goes to trial. Showing that such a program was successfully completed may count in the favor of the accused person.
